Complaint about Bad Smell in Tuzla, Mayor Cited Illegal Sewage Discharge as Reason

Citizens complaining about the bad smell shared many posts on social media.

Citizens complain about the bad smell in Orta and Şifa neighborhoods of Tuzla district of Istanbul.

Mayor Eren Ali Bingöl announced that the bad smell was caused by illegal discharge into the sewer line in Orta Mahalle.

Stating that inspection vehicles and teams started working in the field, Bingöl said that the notifications from the citizens were recorded.

POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR THE SOURCE OF THE DISCHARGE

Explaining that they worked with the police forces to identify the source of the discharge, Bingöl said, "In the first field investigations, it was evaluated that the discharge in question moved from Orta Mahalle to Şifa Mahallesi through the sewer system, and from there towards the coastline and İSKİ treatment facility." he said.

Bingöl also said that İSKİ was informed about the issue after the field studies.
