Survey: Majority of Germans worried about AfD success in Saxony-Anhalt

According to a survey the day after the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, two thirds of Germans are worried about the outcome of the election. However, almost one in four respondents is pleased, according to the ARD's Germany Trend from Monday evening.

In the representative survey by the Infratest dimap institute, after the AfD's election victory, 45 percent of Germans are of the opinion that the top candidate of the party, which the state Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified as definitely right-wing extremist, Ulrich Siegmund, should be elected Prime Minister. However, 48 percent of those surveyed, i.e. almost one in two, are of the opinion that Siegmund should not be elected Prime Minister.

According to the survey, 51 percent of those surveyed are of the opinion that the other parties should involve the AfD more closely in their political work in the future. However, 45 percent believe that the AfD should not be more involved by the other parties.

One in ten is satisfied with the coalition's work

With regard to the federal government, the survey shows that almost nine out of ten Germans are less or not at all satisfied with the work of the black-red coalition. One in ten people is satisfied with it. A minority of 14 percent trust Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) to lead Germany well through the upcoming tasks. 82 percent don't trust him to do that.

Infratest dimap surveyed 1,051 eligible voters online and by telephone on Monday for the Germany trend. The statistical error rate was given as two to three percentage points.
