Brazilian guard suspected of murder of Franco-Portuguese couple in Portugal

From an idyllic situation “to a nightmare”. At the end of the line, Delphine is struggling to comprehend the drama that played out near Lagos, in the south of Portugal. His ex-father-in-law, Jean-Marie Grenier, 79, and his partner Milena, 62, were found dead on Friday in their property in Odiáxere. According to the Portuguese judicial police, the couple were allegedly attacked in a “context of extreme violence” with “a blunt object” before the bodies were hidden “in a water tank located on the property”. Investigators also suspect “the use of chemicals” to accelerate their decomposition.

A 45-year-old Brazilian national, who had worked as a guard for the couple for around seven years, was arrested. According to the Portuguese authorities, the suspect, Natalino C., with a clean criminal record, was found in possession of a large sum of money and property probably belonging to the victims. He had been recruited after a violent burglary of which the couple had been victims in 2019. Since then, the years have passed and “relatives had advised them to part with it because it did not inspire confidence”, slips Delphine to Figaro, who evokes “fairly intrusive behavior” on the part of this guard.
