Der Verband schlägt ein Preismodell vor, das sich allein an der „genutzten Zeit im ÖPNV“ auf Basis des Fahrplans orientiert. Konkret sollte es nur noch fünf Ticketarten geben – für 15 Minuten, 30 Minuten, 60 Minuten, 120 Minuten und für 24 Stunden. Dieser Tarifansatz sei einheitlich nutzbar, intuitiv und leicht verständlich, heißt es in einem Positionspapier. Das Prinzip müsse von Fahrgästen einmal verstanden werden und könne dann überall gelten.

Damit würde der öffentliche Nahverkehr auch für Menschen deutlich einfacher, die nur ab und zu Busse und Bahnen nutzen und auch kein Abo abschließen möchten. „Gerade in Zeiten steigender Spritpreise brauchen Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher attraktive Alternativen zum Auto“, sagte Pop. Das System sollte digital, aber auch analog etwa mit Fahrscheinautomaten nutzbar sein.
