A monument to Yuri Luzhkov was unveiled in Moscow

The grand opening of the monument to the former mayor of the capital Yuri Luzhkov took place on Bolshoi Sukharevsky Lane in Moscow, reports RIA Novosti correspondent.

Luzhkov served as mayor from June 1992 to September 2010. The twenty-first of September marked the 90th anniversary of his birth.

“Today we are unveiling a monument to Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov, the mayor of Moscow, who dedicated his life to serving this city... When we discussed the creation of this monument, we agreed that it would be a good Moscow monument, without pathos, because that’s what Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov was - kind, Moscow and without pathos,” the widow of the former mayor, chairman of the Yu. M. Luzhkov Foundation, said at the opening ceremony Elena Baturina.

In turn, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexey Shaposhnikov noted the symbolism of the monument’s location.

“Yuri Mikhailovich is truly the personification of a politician, a manager. It is no coincidence that the monument is located near the Academy of Management. It will serve as an edification to all future managers who are going to work in the Moscow economy,” the head of the Moscow City Duma emphasized during the ceremony.
