Keelung Heping Island Geopark: Strange rock landscape and ecological features attract tourists

Keelung Heping Island Geopark has been eroded by the northeast monsoon for many years, and has carved out a variety of strange rocks and rocks, including Ten Thousand Duils, Thousand Jojiji, Tofu Rock, Sphinx Rock and Leopard Rock, which can only be seen at low tide. Each season has its own style throughout the year. There is also the "Fanzi Cave" sea cave, which is said to have the handwriting of the Dutch. It is a tourist attraction that accumulates history, culture and natural landscapes.

Heping Island Park is a well-known water play place in Keelung. Many people swim and play in the nine-hole pool. In recent years, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding and other water sports have also been developed. In addition, it has many special sea erosion terrains, the more famous ones are Senjojiki, Tofu Rock, Wanwandui, etc.

"Senjojiki" is a relatively rare sea-eroded platform landscape. Due to long-term erosion by waves, it has formed a terrain like thousands of tatami mats arranged neatly. It is still called Senjojiki by the Japanese. There are also Senjojiki attractions in Japan.

Tofu Rock is a piece of tofu cut into pieces by the continuous erosion of sea water. In spring and summer, under the continuous infiltration of sea water, it will be covered with green seaweed. It is often called "Matcha Tofu". There is a lying leopard rock on the outside of Tofu Rock, which only appears when the tide is low.

"Ten thousand piles" is a special natural landscape composed of many mushroom-shaped rocks with large heads and thin necks. Looking from the trail to the coast, the round rocks are closely connected and look like countless people, so they are called "Ten thousand piles". Some say they resemble the courtiers of the early dynasty, also known as the "Emperor's Palace". There is a rock with a sphinx in the crowd of people. The Heping Island Park guided tour allows the public to enter the crowd and take photos with the Sphinx. There are free guided tours on weekdays and holidays.

In addition, there is a sea cave on the hillside near Senjojiki. It is said that there are handwritings carved by the Dutch in the 17th century before they left, so it is called "Fanzi Cave". However, due to age and weathering, the handwriting is currently difficult to read.

The coast near Tofu Rock in the park was selected as "the 21 most beautiful sunrise observation points in the world" by the American Chinese website. From May to September every year, the public is open to the public to make an appointment in the early morning to capture the beauty of the golden sunshine shining on the coastal rocks.
