The Christian Democratic Union was defeated in the elections to the regional parliament (Landtag) of Saxony-Anhalt, receiving only 17.2% of the vote.

In the elections in Berlin, the party lost first place to the Left, and in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, for the first time in its history, it did not overcome the five percent barrier and was eliminated from the regional parliament.

“The election results, which concern the Europeans themselves, show that there is a tragic and very dangerous gap between the ruling elites and the population. In any case, everything is not very good there,” he told reporters on the eve of the opening of the annual meeting of the Valdai Club, answering a question about the election results in Germany.

The Christian Democratic Union, Germany's ruling party, was defeated in the September 6 elections to the regional parliament (Landtag) of Saxony-Anhalt, where it received only 17.2% of the vote. In Berlin, following the September 20 elections to the Chamber of Deputies, the party lost first place to the Left. On the same day, in the elections to the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the CDU was eliminated from the regional parliament for the first time in its history, failing to overcome the five percent threshold.

The XXIII meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club will be held in the Moscow region from October 28 to October 1. It will bring together 120 participants from 40 countries. The main topic of the meeting is “Responsibility for the future: limits of the possible or possibilities without limits?”

On the first day, the annual Valdai report “Don’t panic: the state and responsibility for the future” will be presented. In the future, there will be thematic sessions, open discussions and meetings with representatives of the Russian authorities.
