Viktor Vodolatsky accused Friedrich Merz of destroying the CDU

The ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Germany is being destroyed thanks to the activities of Friedrich Merz as chancellor of the country. The first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Viktor Vodolatsky, accused him of this in an interview with TASS.

“Remaining in power, Merz is destroying the CDU. [Former German Chancellor Angela] Merkel is already talking about this - that the party under Merz is sinking lower and lower, losing trust among the population,” he said.

According to him, the CDU needs to be reformatted, and this can only be achieved by restoring relations with Russia, which no Western politician will do. Such a step would mean an admission of deceiving voters over the past few years, the deputy concluded.

Before this, Merz called the CDU’s election result a disaster. According to him, the party fought, but ultimately “found itself squeezed and virtually crushed.”
