The Cabinet welcomes the start of activation of the multinational maritime defense alliance

The Council of Ministers, in its session held today under the Royal Presidency, welcomed the actual start of the institutional and operational activation of the “Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance”, an initiative launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. After completing all organizational and planning arrangements for its devices, the coalition is now entering a new phase aimed at achieving full operational readiness. Its core tasks are to enhance collective maritime security and ensure freedom of navigation through strategic corridors and straits, thus protecting the continuity of international trade and global supply chains from any potential threats. In a related context, the Council of Ministers renewed its categorical rejection of the repeated Iranian attacks on ships and commercial tankers. The Council described these attacks as a “dangerous escalation” that directly threatens the safety of maritime navigation, and represents a flagrant violation of international laws and norms. He also considered it a blatant challenge to the UN Security Council resolutions that guarantee the rights and freedom of navigation for commercial ships, especially when crossing the Strait of Hormuz, denouncing any measures or threats that would obstruct these rights or destabilize the region. At the level of bilateral relations, the Council valued the establishment of the “Saudi-Sudanese Coordination Council,” considering it a natural extension of the two brotherly countries’ keenness to support and coordinate their common positions. This new institutional framework aims to raise the levels of cooperation and integration between Riyadh and Khartoum, and to transform common aspirations into concrete initiatives and projects that serve the strategic interests of the two countries and achieve the aspirations of their people.
