Two men arrested after being extradited from South Korea for attempted robbery in Taito Ward in 2018 Metropolitan Police Department

On the 15th, the Metropolitan Police Department announced that two Korean men were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery on the streets of Taito Ward, Tokyo in 2018. Based on the extradition treaty with South Korea, two people were extradited from South Korea on the same day.

According to the First Investigation Division, two men were arrested, both of whom had unknown addresses and occupations. The 29-year-old man said, ``I will remain silent until my lawyer comes,'' and the 31-year-old man said, ``I did not rob the victim.''

The suspect was arrested at around 1:20 p.m. on November 12, 2018, on a street in Matsugaya 3-chome, Taito Ward, where he sprayed pepper spray at two people, including a man who worked for a precious metals purchase business (he was in his 20s at the time), and tried to rob them of cash. At the time, the man reportedly had about 47 million yen in cash to buy jewelry.

Immediately after the incident, two other Korean nationals who were near the scene were arrested, one for attempted robbery, and the other for subsequent burglary. The two people arrested this time are said to have left the country on the day of the incident, and the Metropolitan Police Department obtained an arrest warrant in December 2018 and placed them on an international wanted list.

A total of five people are believed to have carried out the attempted robbery, with the remaining Korean national also reportedly leaving the country immediately after the incident. The Metropolitan Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for this man, and he is on an international wanted list.
