September 2026 Taiwan Public Opinion Survey: President Lai Ching-te’s trust and satisfaction with governing both exceeded 50%

Polling expert Dai Lian today announced the "Taiwan Public Opinion Survey for September 2026". The results of the poll showed that President Lai's trust rating exceeded 50%, and his satisfaction with governing also exceeded 50%. The favorability rating of the Democratic Progressive Party rose slightly to 47.4%, while the favorability ratings of the Kuomintang and the People's Party both declined, to 26.4% and 21.6% respectively.

According to the "Taiwan Public Opinion Survey" report, the satisfaction level with President Lai Ching-te's governance performance remained unchanged at 51.4%, and the dissatisfaction dropped by 1.2 percentage points to 41.1%; the trust level increased by 1.3 percentage points to 51.2%, which was the first time since April 2025 that the trust level exceeded 50%. The distrust level dropped by 3.8 percentage points to 35.7%, which is the lowest point since December 2024.

In terms of political party satisfaction, the highest poll data is the Democratic Progressive Party, which increased by 0.6 percentage points from August to 47.4%; followed by the Kuomintang, whose favorability dropped by 1.5 percentage points to 26.4%; the People's Party ranked third with 21.6%; and the Communist Party of China only had 7.5%.

The "Taiwan Public Opinion Survey" report pointed out that in terms of attention to county and mayor elections, Taipei mayoral election ranked first with 40.6%, New Taipei City ranked second with 24.8%, and Kaohsiung City ranked third with 20.7%.

The poll was conducted among 1,075 people (698 by telephone and 377 by mobile phone) from September 21 to 23. The maximum sampling error of the combined sample at a reliability level of 95% was ±3.0%.
