Wonju City unveils vision for AI-specialized pilot city at 2026 World Smart City Expo

Wonju City will present a blueprint for a future city based on artificial intelligence (AI) at the largest smart city exhibition in Korea.

Wonju City announced that it will participate in the '2026 World Smart City Expo' (WSCE) held at BEXCO, Busan from the 9th to the 11th.

The city will operate the ‘Wonju AI Specialized Pilot City’ exhibition hall at the event venue and introduce the business vision and related technologies.

The World Smart City Expo is an international event co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Busan Metropolitan City.

Last year, 450 companies from 54 countries participated and over 43,000 visitors visited.

S-Traffic, Hyundai Motor Company, Seoul Robotics, Saltlux, and NHN Cloud will participate in the Wonju City exhibition hall.

Private consortium participating organizations, such as Kangwon National University Wonju Campus and Wonju Future Industry Promotion Agency, will also announce Wonju's AI city plan.

The AI-specialized pilot city promoted by Wonju City aims to become an integrated AI city that goes beyond the simple application of individual AI technologies.

The key is for AI to comprehensively analyze urban situations and connect citizens with the services they need in a timely manner.

The city promotes projects centered on four major specialized services: healthcare, disaster safety, mobility, and housing.

Various data collected from all over the city are integrated and analyzed at the ‘AI City Intelligence Center’.

We plan to connect the analysis results to services that citizens can experience in their daily lives, such as transportation, safety, disaster, and medical care.

On the 9th, the first day of the event, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Wonju City, and Cheonan and Asan City will hold an 'AI Specialized Pilot City Launch Ceremony' in front of the exhibition hall.

Wonju City announces the full-fledged start of urban innovation using AI at home and abroad through the launch ceremony.

On the same day, we will also participate in the 'K-AI Urban Policy Conference' held at the 'AI City Stage'.

The city will announce major services and directions in the AI-based transportation, safety, disaster, and medical fields under the theme of 'Wonju AI Specialized Pilot City'.

Wonju City plans to use this expo as an opportunity to promote its competitiveness as an AI city and a leading city of future industries.

We plan to strengthen the foundation for future industries by expanding investment and attraction of smart city, AI, and mobility-related companies.
