2026 MLB Playoff Picture: Final Weekend Standings and Clinching Scenarios

Welcome to the final weekend of the 2026 MLB regular season. The postseason field is coming into shape, but there are still a few races to be decided, including an ugly AL West battle.

Four teams -- the Cubs, White Sox, Guardians and Padres -- all clinched playoff berths on Thursday, giving us 10 of 12 teams on the bracket. The Cubs and Padres are locked into wild-card berths, while the White Sox and Guardians are still duking it out for the AL Central title (the loser will get the third American League wild card).

The Phillies seemed destined for that third National League wild-card berth (though not necessarily as the No. 6 seed), but a losing streak, plus a recent Diamondbacks surge, has made that less of a guarantee over the last few days. Can they pull it together over the weekend?

The AL West, meanwhile, remains up in the air as the Rangers and Astros jockey for the division title that will see a sub-.500 team take the crown for the first time ever, an ignominious record as both teams limp toward the finish line.

The Rays have won the AL East, leaving the Yankees to battle it out for seeding in the wild card, where they're currently lined up to face their division rivals, the Red Sox. The Guardians have a one-game lead over the White Sox in the AL Central in a race that looks like it'll come down to the wire. The Cubs, thanks to a strong record against the Phillies and Padres this year, own the tiebreakers, which could end up deciding the seeding.

Elsewhere in the bracket, the Brewers, Dodgers and Braves have all secured playoff berths as division winners out of the National League, with Milwaukee securing a bye past the Wild Card Series and home field advantage in the NLDS.
