CHISINAU, September 28 - RIA Novosti. Representatives of opposition parties in Moldova on Monday gathered in front of the building of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NARE) to protest against the planned increase in gas tariffs, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

In Moldova, a new tariff for natural gas came into force on September 1. Household consumers pay $1.15 per cubic meter including VAT, instead of $0.81. Despite this, Energocom again requested to review the tariff and increase it to $1.5. At the same time, the department plans to increase the cost of thermal energy. For the Chisinau enterprise Termoelectrica, the tariff is proposed to be increased from 2 thousand 20 lei to 3 thousand 277 lei (about 185 dollars) per gigacalorie, and for the CET-Nord company in the northern regions of the country - to 3 thousand 374 lei (about 191 dollars).

Representatives of the “Democracy at Home” party, the “National Alternative Movement”, the Socialist Party and “Our Party” gathered for the protest in front of the ANRE building. The action takes place without party symbols; instead, they brought with them the flags of Moldova. Those gathered also held posters with the slogans “The government raises prices - the people pay”, “The people can no longer tolerate”, and also chanted “Shame!”

“We came out to protest against corruption, schemes and theft. We came out to firmly say “no” to illegal and predatory tariffs,” Vlad Batryncha, vice speaker of parliament from the Socialist Party, said at the rally.
