On the evening of September 13, the main station's "Financial Investigation" column broadcast "Idle Sewage Treatment Stations", involving sewage treatment issues in three villages in Xiangfen County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province. The program found that sewage treatment projects in some villages in Shanxi, Jiangsu and other places have problems such as equipment idling, sewage backflow, and millions of dollars of pollution control projects being idle. This project was supposed to benefit the villagers, but it has caused troubles to the villagers' lives.

On September 14, a reporter learned from the website of the People's Government of Xiangfen County, Shanxi Province that after the media exposed village sewage treatment problems, Linfen City and Xiangfen County established a joint investigation team composed of the departments of ecological environment, housing and urban-rural development, agriculture and rural areas, and relevant towns. They conducted investigations overnight and made every effort to promote the rectification of the problem.

Facilities are idle and sewage is discharged directly

Many villages in Linfen, Shanxi Province "treat pollution but cause pollution"

During the program, the reporter investigated and found that the sewage treatment projects in many villages in Xiangfen County, Linfen, Shanxi Province had problems such as disconnected supporting facilities, idle facilities, and pollution control instead of pollution. Among them:

A complete sewage pipe network has been laid in Jie Village, and the basic village appearance is clean and standardized. However, there has never been a supporting sewage treatment terminal, and domestic sewage is still discharged directly;

Similar problems are common in Yonggu Village. Sewage has been discharged directly into ditches and ponds for a long time, and some pipe networks have outstanding environmental health hazards;

In Dongliu Village, Xiangfen County, where a treatment station was built, the roads in the village became muddy after rainfall. The courtyard of the village-level sewage treatment station that is supposed to collect and dispose sewage is abandoned and overgrown with weeds. The equipment is fully equipped but all is out of operation and idle. The water in the pool is stagnant, covered with cobwebs, and some are dry and vacant. The sewage at the station's drainage outlet is black and smelly, and garbage is floating. It is discharged directly into the surrounding seepage pits without treatment.

In this regard, the Dongliucun village party secretary said that "the pipeline has not been connected yet." Staff from the Xiangfen Branch of the Linfen Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau said that due to project funding issues, the supporting pipe network project of the sewage treatment station was not completed, resulting in the facility being unable to be put into operation for a long time after it was completed.
