According to the legal community on the 27th, the Criminal Division 11 of the Uijeongbu District Court (Chief Judge Yang Cheol-han) sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 60s who was indicted on charges of robbery and causing injury, to four years in prison.

Mr. A is accused of sneaking into the house of Mr. B, a man in his 60s in Dongducheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, at around 8:50 p.m. on July 6 and trying to steal food. When Mr. B found him on his way home, he threatened him with a weapon and robbed him of 150,000 won in cash.

At that time, after confirming that the lights were off in the house, Mr. A opened the door using Mr. B's house key that he had in advance, went into the kitchen, and tried to eat rice from the rice cooker and side dishes from the refrigerator.

At this time, when Mr. B, who had returned home, discovered him, Mr. A grabbed a kitchen knife from the kitchen and threatened him.

Mr. A got into a physical fight with Mr. B, who tried to take away the knife, and after falling down together, he struck Mr. B several times and subdued him.

Mr. A then asked Mr. B to give him his wallet, then took 150,000 won in cash from the wallet and ran away.

During this process, Mr. B suffered injuries that required treatment for two weeks, including a cut on his hand.

According to the police investigation, Mr. A and Mr. B were colleagues who had known each other for about 15 years.

It was found that Mr. A, who was unemployed and had difficult financial circumstances, had been paying for his meals by sneaking into B's house for a considerable period of time.

The court said, "Even though he had known the victim for about 15 years, he broke the relationship of trust and committed a crime. He was caught sneaking into the house and stealing food and side dishes. Although he had the opportunity to ask for forgiveness, he instead looked at the victim's wallet and committed robbery."

He then explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "Considering the fact that the victim was not forgiven, a severe punishment commensurate with the guilt is inevitable," and "We took into account the fact that the suspect acknowledged and reflected on the crime, the fact that he was in financial difficulty, and the fact that the amount of damage was not large."
