Taiwanese breeding pigs and pig semen have been approved by Malaysia to be imported into new overseas markets.

Malaysia officially approved the import of breeding pigs and pig semen from Taiwan on the evening of the 24th. The Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Office of the Ministry of Agriculture said that this is another newly opened export market for breeding pigs and pig semen after Hong Kong, Vietnam and Palau. It shows that my country is one of the three major swine disease-free countries. The epidemic prevention results have been recognized by the international market, and the positive benefits continue to spread. It is also the result of joint efforts with the representative office in Malaysia.

The Prevention and Inspection Agency stated that since Taiwan submitted an application to Malaysia for the export of breeding pigs and pig semen in 2020, it has continued to conduct quarantine consultations with Malaysia through its representative office in Malaysia, and has successively provided information on animal health, disease surveillance, and breeding pig management in accordance with its requirements. After the African swine fever epidemic broke out in my country in October last year, the Malaysian side temporarily suspended the review; until April this year, after my country restored the status of an African swine fever-free area, the Prevention and Inspection Administration immediately urged the Malaysian side to resume the review. According to statistics from the Prevention and Inspection Administration, my country's high-quality breeding pigs have been exported. From 2023 to 2025, 353, 297, and 445 pigs were exported respectively, mainly to Hong Kong and Vietnam; in the past three years, pig semen has been mainly exported to Palau, the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of St. Vincent. This time Malaysia agrees to import, which will add new overseas markets for breeding pigs and pig semen.

The Prevention and Inspection Service further explained that the quarantine conditions for imports from Malaysia mainly include: isolation of breeding pigs before export, health inspections, and health management of pig semen supply boars and artificial insemination centers. The Prevention and Inspection Service will confirm the relevant conditions as soon as possible and prepare a sample of my country’s export quarantine certificate and send it to Malaysia for review. After the documents are confirmed, businesses that are willing to export can handle the export in accordance with the regulations, expand overseas markets, and increase revenue.

The National Prevention and Inspection Service will also continue to work with various units such as the Department of Animal Husbandry of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Animal Production Experimental Institute, and the Veterinary Research Institute to break through quarantine barriers.
