In Russia, a decrease in the issuance of car loans was recorded in annual terms

At the end of August, 101 thousand loans were issued in Russia for new and used cars, which is 6.9 percent less than in the same month a year earlier. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to data from the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).

However, compared to July, the issuance increased by 3.7 percent, to 97.4 thousand loans. The most car loans were taken out by Muscovites (6.66 thousand), residents of the Moscow region (6.2 thousand), Tatarstan (5.33 thousand), St. Petersburg (4.66 thousand) and Bashkiria (4 thousand).

The result in annual terms fell the most in the Krasnodar (minus 20.7 percent) and Stavropol (minus 19.1 percent) territories, Chuvashia (minus 18.7 percent), Samara region (minus 17 percent) and the Perm region (minus 13.8 percent).

The opposite dynamics were shown by the Omsk region (plus 24.6 percent), Krasnoyarsk region (plus 10.6 percent), Sverdlovsk (plus 3.9 percent), Irkutsk (plus 2.1 percent) and Vologda (plus 1.6 percent) regions. Over the year, Moscow and St. Petersburg lost 6.6 percent and 12.9 percent of the number of loans issued, respectively.

NBKI Marketing Director Alexey Volkov noted that the current level can be characterized as rather low. Back in 2024, in August, financial institutions issued 156 thousand car loans, which is one and a half times more than in the same month of 2026. This trend indicates both low demand for loans and risk aversion on the part of banks that place high demands on potential borrowers.
