According to Incheon City on the 11th, the number of passengers using Incheon passenger ships last month was 195,063, a 17.6% decrease from the same month last year (236,847).

During this period, the number of users from other cities was 4,485, a 59.2% decrease from the same period last year (10,992 people).

This appears to be the effect of Incheon City discontinuing the ferry fare support project for residents of other cities.

Since last year, Incheon City has lowered the coastal ferry fare for Incheon citizens to 1,500 won and implemented the 'i Bada Pass', which supports 70% of the fare for residents of other cities, but stopped supporting fares for residents of other cities from July 25 due to early exhaustion of the related budget.

The benefits applicable to Incheon citizens remained the same, but the number of Incheon citizen users also decreased. Last month, the number of Incheon citizens was 70,439, a 15.2% decrease from the same month last year (83,084).

The city did not separately analyze the factors that contributed to the decline in the number of users last month, and plans to review the annual user trend in the future to see if there are any areas for improvement.

An Incheon city official said, "Because we analyze the effects of the project on a yearly basis, we did not specifically look into the reason for the decrease in the number of users last month," but added, "Currently, the Incheon Research Institute is conducting a service to analyze the effects of the Bada Pass policy as a policy research project."

He added, “We will discuss with the Incheon Research Institute whether it is possible to analyze the impact of this decrease in users and the suspension of fare support for residents of other cities,” adding, “Based on the service results that will be released soon and the evaluation of this year’s business, we plan to review whether to resume support for fares for residents of other cities next year.”
