Remarks at the confirmation hearing... “Supply by mobilizing all public and private capabilities”

(Seoul, Sejong = Yonhap News) Reporter Lim Ki-chang and Oh Jin-song = Hong Ji-seon, candidate for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "We will mobilize all public and private capabilities to quickly promote the supply of housing in the places the people want until we feel there is a sufficient market."

Candidate Hong expressed this ambition in his opening remarks at the personnel hearing held at the National Assembly on the 16th, saying, “I will achieve housing stability that the people can feel.”

He said, "Using my experience working in local government, I will improve policy implementation by resolving on-site difficulties such as delays in licensing," and added, "I will strengthen the housing ladder for future generations, such as young people and newlyweds, and provide strong protection for the housing vulnerable, such as the elderly and victims of rental fraud."

He then emphasized balanced development as a 'national survival issue' and said, "We will support mega projects to create high-tech industrial bases in the region, and continue to foster the administrative capital and Saemangeum as key regional hubs." He also said, "For the second relocation of public institutions, we will also communicate sufficiently with institutions and local governments and organically connect local industries to create growth priming."

Regarding the transportation sector, he mentioned expanding the metropolitan transportation network in each of the five poles and three special regions, strengthening the guarantee of transportation rights for residents in transportation disadvantaged and underprivileged areas, and expanding credit card benefits for everyone. He also announced that he would boldly improve unnecessary regulations to expand new growth engines such as autonomous driving, taking advantage of his experience working as the second vice minister in charge of the transportation sector at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

In addition, he emphasized, "Rather than reacting after an accident occurs at a construction or transportation site, we will establish a prevention-oriented safety management system that finds risk factors in advance," and added, "We will also take great care to ensure that workers in delivery, transportation, and construction sites receive fair treatment in a safe environment."

Candidate Hong said, "Looking back, my public life was as much about making policies as it was about making sure those policies worked well in the field. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is closest to the lives of the people, so I feel the weight of this experience even more after being nominated as a ministerial candidate."
