Sudan accuses US of violating international norms by denying visa to al-Burhan

The United States refused to issue an entry visa to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to participate in the session of the UN General Assembly.

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mukhi al-Din Salem said the visa refusal was contrary to international norms and agreements.

Salem stressed the need for an internal political solution to the conflict in Sudan and called for an end to external interference and arms transfers.

The US refusal to issue an entry visa to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to participate in the session of the UN General Assembly is contrary to international norms and the agreement on the host country of the organization's headquarters, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mukhi al-Din Salem said speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“The failure to issue a visa to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to participate in meetings of the General Assembly constitutes a violation of international laws and agreements,” the press service of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry quotes Salim as saying.

The Sudanese publication Al-Sudani reported on September 24 that al-Burhan did not receive a US visa to participate in the UN General Assembly due to disagreements with the US administration over resolving the conflict in Sudan.

According to the minister, Khartoum believes that ending the war in Sudan requires, first of all, an internal political settlement based on a comprehensive dialogue between the Sudanese themselves and while maintaining national control over this process.

The minister emphasized the need to stop external interference and the supply of weapons to the Rapid Reaction Forces (RRF), and also called for the disarmament of these formations and the concentration of weapons exclusively in the hands of the state.
