China News Service, Tianjin, September 13 (Reporter Sun Lingling) From September 12 to 13, "Persistence and Development-International Academic Symposium on Feng Jicai's Literature and Cultural Heritage Protection" was held at Tianjin University. More than 50 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad conducted discussions on Feng Jicai's literary and cultural heritage protection, covering multiple topics such as research on Feng Jicai's prose, research on Feng Jicai's novels, research on "Strange People in the World", research on Feng Jicai and the Tianjin School of Culture, and Feng Jicai and the construction of the intangible cultural heritage discipline.
A series of blockbuster new books by Feng Jicai were unveiled at the opening ceremony, including "Feng Jicai's Novel Library" and "Feng Jicai's Prose Library" with a total of 8 million words, as well as multiple versions of "Strange People in the World" that continued to write a new chapter.
Feng Jicai has been deeply engaged in the "four carriages" of literature, painting, cultural heritage protection and education for many years. Mei Bing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University, said that Feng Jicai used more than half a century of unremitting struggle to interpret an intellectual's affectionate protection of the roots of national culture, "making big things become the world's things." Hang, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jian believes that Feng Jicai's "perseverance" is first reflected in his not forgetting his original intention, taking root in the land of Jingu, and writing for the people with enthusiasm; his "pioneering" is reflected in his grand practice of transforming cultural conscience into cultural actions.
"Three generations of our family have been reading Mr. Feng's works," said He Xiangyang, vice chairman of the Chinese Writers Association. "Mr. Feng is a landmark writer in the history of contemporary Chinese literature. His literary works have nourished generations of readers. From writing culture to protecting culture, he has made an indelible contribution to the living inheritance of China's excellent traditional culture and has set an example for contemporary Chinese writers."
At the opening ceremony, Writers Publishing House launched its major new books - "Feng Jicai's Novel Library" (eight volumes), "Feng Jicai's Prose Library" (eighteen volumes) and "Strange People in the World (Wu)". According to Chen Tao, president and editor-in-chief of Writers Publishing House, the two sets of libraries have a total of more than 8 million words. They have been carefully polished and systematically compiled over several years. They are the first to fully present the artistic context, ideological evolution and literary pattern of Feng Jicai's novels and prose creations. They are a systematic preservation of his literary achievements, and also provide a set of authoritative, complete and passable classic texts for the study of contemporary Chinese literature and modern and contemporary culture.
"Strange People in the World (Wu)" is a new chapter written by Feng Jicai in 2026 Bingwuma, containing 22 stories. Writers Publishing House published the first edition of "Strange People in the World" in 2000, and later released the "revised edition". Feng Jicai personally selected the illustrations of "Xingsu Pictorial" that reflected the flavor of the times in the book, supplemented by calligraphy inscriptions by the famous calligrapher Mr. Sun Boxiang. Subsequently, three volumes were published successively. So far, the sales volume of the Writers' Club version of the "Strange People in the World" series has reached 12 million copies.
To this end, the Writers Club specially produced the "Special Commemorative Memorial for Feng Jicai's "Feng Jicai's "Worldly Strangers" Series Classic Long-Selling" trophy. Qian Ying, a senior editor who has been in charge of this series for more than 20 years, handed the galloping horse-shaped trophy to Feng Jicai and said emotionally: "Being able to travel with Mr. Feng and the classics of the 'Worldly Strangers' series is the proudest chapter in my career, and my friendship with him is a particularly valuable asset in my life."
Every moment in the opening ceremony made Feng Jicai particularly moved. "It is not easy for so many thoughtful brains to come together. We all come here for literature and the inheritance of cultural heritage." He also sincerely thanked the editors of the two publishing houses, "Editors are invisible authors. Without editors, what writers write will always be on their desks, not in the hands of readers." Many doctoral students he trained rushed back to attend the conference. When he looked through the conference proceedings, he was very pleased with the growth of the students. He also thanked Tianjin University for giving him trust and support, allowing him to pursue his educational ideals freely.
Feng Jicai lamented that the conference title "Perseverance and Development" expressed his own feelings. "I am just a topic. Every writer is a topic. And all the topics I do are related to these two words. What should we stick to? What should we pioneer? This is the mission given to us by the times."
