GENEVA, September 28 - RIA Novosti. The Ukrainian authorities, led by Vladimir Zelensky, are not holding elections not because of military operations, but in order to preserve themselves “in the seats of power,” said Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik.

“They openly demonstrate that in Ukraine the authorities do not hold elections not because military operations are taking place on its territory, but primarily in order to maintain themselves in positions of power,” Miroshnik said at the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

According to him, Zelensky, in an interview with the American television company CBS News, said that he considers it impossible to hold elections in Ukraine during the war, not only in accordance with the constitution and electoral legislation, but also from a security point of view. At the same time, the diplomat added, in new regions of Russia, where the situation is no better, elections took place, and the right to democracy was restored there - but not by Ukraine, but by Russia.
