South Korean lawmakers criticize Ukrainian President Zelensky as ungrateful, aid may be reviewed

There is a dispute between South Korea and Ukraine over whether there is a confidentiality agreement for the transfer of North Korean prisoners of war. The South Korean government has demanded an apology from Ukraine, but it has not yet received an apology from Ukraine. Some South Korean lawmakers angrily criticized Ukrainian President Zelensky for showing "ungratefulness" at the United Nations. He bluntly said that if Ukraine does not apologize, it should reconsider its current aid to Ukraine.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Rep. Kim Byung-joo, a retired army four-star general and secretary-general of the ruling party of the South Korean National Assembly Defense Committee, pointed out on the official YouTube channel of the Democratic Party of Korea today (30th) that Ukrainian President Zelensky disclosed in his speech to the United Nations that North Korean prisoners of war will be sent to South Korea, saying, "I don't know if it is because he is a comedian, it is just a show."

Kim Byung-joo said: "This seems to be to strengthen his own political status, and there are many criticisms even in Ukraine." He also criticized: "There is no more ungrateful thing than this."

The South Korean government expressed strong regret to the Ukrainian government on September 27 and requested a formal explanation and apology. However, so far, Ukraine has not expressed regret or apologized to the South Korean government.

Kim Byung-joo believes: "If we continue to be tough and undermine mutual trust as we are now, there is no need to continue to assist a dishonest country." He emphasized that "if there is no apology, even the assistance currently being provided should be reviewed."

However, when asked whether this represented the internal opinion of the National Defense Committee of the South Korean Parliament, Kim Byung-joo clarified: "This is my personal opinion."
