90% of Japanese high school students have experience using AI, 84.8% have learning support

On the 2nd, an attitude survey conducted by the National Institute for the Promotion of Youth Education in Japan, the United States, China, and South Korea revealed that 90% of Japanese high school students have used artificial intelligence (AI) for studying, poster production, etc.

According to the survey, the percentage of high school students who answered that they ``often'' or ``sometimes'' have used the interactive generation AI ``Chat GPT'' was highest in China at 93.6%, followed by 88.4% in Japan, 87.5% in South Korea, and 68.3% in the United States.

Japan's total value increased by 26.1 points from the previous survey in 2020. ``Sometimes'' decreased by 8.1 points to 35.3%, while ``Often'' responded to 53.1%, an increase of 34.2 points, indicating an increase in frequency of use.

When asked about the situations in which it is used, 84.8% said it was used for "study support," which far exceeded other items and was the highest among the four countries. On the other hand, ``Creative activities'' was the lowest at 21.7%, and ``Having someone do my homework for me'' was the lowest at 10.3%, indicating a cautious attitude toward how they are used.

Furthermore, when asked whether they think AI can enhance cultural creativity, 24.4% of Japanese respondents said they "strongly agree", which was higher than the other three countries.

A representative from the organization said, ``We think there are high expectations for AI in Japan.In addition to literacy education in schools, it will be important to provide support outside of schools.'' The survey is conducted every year by the organization and others targeting high school students. A total of 13,118 people from four countries responded, including 4,821 people from 27 prefectures in Japan.
