Sejong Mayor Cho Sang-ho calls for the revival of special apartment supply for workers relocating to central administrative agencies

(Sejong = Yonhap News) Reporter Yang Young-seok = On the 7th, Sejong Mayor Jo Sang-ho advocated for the revival of the government's 'Apartment Special Supply (Special Forces) System' targeting employees of the relocation agency to ensure smooth relocation of the central administrative agency.

At a regular press conference held at City Hall on this day, Mayor Cho said, "I don't think there were any serious defects that warranted discontinuation of special supply," and added, "We have already proposed to the Multifunctional Administrative City Construction Agency (Happiness Administration) to resume the special force system."

He added that he will also discuss ways to supply apartments in towns and villages under the jurisdiction of Sejong City Hall, rather than new towns under the jurisdiction of the Happiness Office.

He said, “It is important to see how quickly the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Sejong City proceed with the existing apartment supply plan,” and added, “Ultimately, when the government’s final plan is finalized, a housing stabilization plan will come out, and we will discuss it with the government.”

Sejong City's special apartment supply system was introduced to ensure the stable settlement of central administrative agency workers.

Up to 70% of the sales volume was given priority in supplying apartments to employees of previous institutions, but this was abolished in 2021 due to side effects such as illegal resale.

As the Ministry of Public Administration and Security announced on the 3rd that the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will relocate to Sejong from the first half of next year, and the Prosecutors' Office (Public Prosecution Service and Central Investigation Office) and the National Police Agency will move to Sejong after securing office buildings, the issue of securing housing for employees of the relocating organizations is emerging as an urgent task.

Meanwhile, Mayor Cho said that he is considering the direction of promotion of the household waste incineration facility (eco-friendly comprehensive town), which is at risk of being shut down.

On the 1st, the Daejeon High Court ruled that the results of the incinerator site selection selected by Sejong City should be canceled in a lawsuit filed against Sejong City by the 'Incinerator Opposition Countermeasures Committee' composed of residents.

Accordingly, setbacks were inevitable in Sejong City's schedule to install a new incineration facility.

Mayor Cho said, "A problem has arisen with a project that has been promoted for several years in close consultation with residents, and a legal dispute still remains." He added, "I will consider until the appeal deadline to decide whether it would be more beneficial to appeal to the Supreme Court or to resolve the matter through dialogue in close consultation with residents."
