Danger of debris flow in Chengkou County, Chongqing: Move people in advance to avoid casualties

China News Service, Chongqing, September 29 (Zhang Xu) The Chongqing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau announced on September 29 that a mudslide occurred in Hong Village, Houping Township, Chengkou County, Chongqing on September 28. Because nine people from five households at risk were relocated in advance, casualties were effectively avoided.

At about 15:15 on September 28, Houping Township organized a basic force to inspect the Red Village No. 1 Cooperative during the 100-day offensive. It was found that there were signs of soil deformation on a slope in the village, and the situation was reported immediately. After receiving the report, Red Village immediately conducted an emergency evacuation of 9 people from 5 households in the hidden danger area.

At about 16:00 that day, a dangerous mudslide occurred there, with a volume of about 1,800 cubic meters, directly causing the collapse of a farmhouse below (involving one household and two people). Because grassroots patrols were in place, hidden dangers were discovered in advance and people were evacuated, the mudslide caused no casualties.

After receiving the report, the Chengkou County Planning and Natural Resources Bureau immediately organized stationed geological engineer Tan Bofang to go to the site for investigation. The analysis concluded that the debris flow was caused by this round of heavy rainfall. Subsequently, the bureau directed the Houping Township People's Government to close the threatened county road below.

At present, the Chengkou County Planning and Natural Resources Bureau and the geological team stationed have gone to the site to conduct an expanded survey of the area. They have guided the Houping Township People's Government to delineate the danger zone, set up warning lines and warning signs, continue to do a good job in resettling evacuated residents, and implement dedicated personnel to strengthen inspection and monitoring, and prohibit irrelevant personnel from entering the danger zone.
