Senator Mark Kelly: The Sultanate of Oman is a vital partner and there is no logic in threatening it

Democratic Senator Mark Kelly said early Tuesday that the Sultanate of Oman is a “vital party in the negotiations with Iran” and that it “does not seem logical at all” to create more enemies by threatening to bomb the country.

“The Sultanate of Oman has been a security partner of ours, and it plays a critical role in any negotiations we might have with the Iranians,” Kelly told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.

He continued: "This is part of the problem here. The president did this without a strategy, without any strategic goal, and without a plan or timetable. Now, he is stuck and does not find a way out."

The senator said that rising costs for gasoline, diesel, fertilizer and food prices will continue unless Trump finds "a way out of this situation."

“People like Donald Trump have long believed that air power and dropping bombs is the solution to problems,” added Kelly, a former US Navy SEAL. “Air power is part of a broader strategy in any military effort, not the entire strategy. He missed this...and now the American people are paying the price for their mistakes.”

Kelly said that Trump was not "able to explain the matter to the American people, or explain how this is in our interest as a country," and so "until he finds a way out of this situation, we will see a continuing increase in problems."
