Uchi Zoo completes otter migration by creating an ecologically friendly otter habitat

On the 22nd, the Uchi Zoo in Gwangju-si, Jeollanam-do announced that it had created an ecologically friendly otter habitat and relocated the otters.

The newly created otter farm is an external enclosure with an area of ​​700㎡. Reflecting the characteristics of otters that like flowing water, it has a valley shape with two ponds connected to a waterway, and grass is allowed to grow around the ponds.

A structure inspired by the columnar joints of Mudeungsan Mountain, a representative cultural asset of the region, was placed in the center to highlight the characteristics of Jeonnam Gwangju's representative zoo.

Otter population has declined rapidly due to climate change and indiscriminate destruction of habitat, and has been designated as a Class 1 endangered species and Natural Monument No. 330.

The two otters at the Uchi Zoo were rescued from the Wildlife Rescue and Management Center when they were cubs and were raised by humans from the time they were babies. As a result, they were unable to return to nature and were transferred to the zoo.
