Gyeongnam Province conducts emergency joint inspection of apartment slopes and retaining walls

(Changwon = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jeong-hoon = Gyeongnam Province announced on the 22nd that it will conduct a joint city-county on-site inspection of the slopes and retaining walls around the apartment from the 28th to October 30th, following the collapse of the slope of an apartment complex in Okpo-dong, Geoje-si due to extreme heavy rain during the Liberation Day holiday, resulting in damage to life and property.

The province confirmed that 92 apartment complexes with 54,070 households in 13 cities and counties have slopes, retaining walls, and stonework.

Excluding the six complexes in Geoje City, which have already completed inspections after the extreme heavy rain on Liberation Day, 86 complexes are subject to on-site inspection.

Among the 86 complexes, the province will first inspect 33 complexes that have a history of damage over the past five years or are in landslide-prone areas, and sequentially check the remaining 53 complexes.

Focus on checking whether there are cracks, settlement, loss of soil, falling rocks, leachate generation, blockage or damage to drains or catch basins, and the management status of safety facilities such as rockfall prevention nets and protective fences.

The province requires on-site action to be taken on matters that can be immediately improved, such as drain blockage or sediment accumulation. If abnormal signs such as cracks, settlement, or soil loss are in progress or additional risks are identified, priority safety measures such as restricting access are taken and safety management measures are found through additional inspection.
