What exactly is a logistics network?

When a piece of goods goes from the factory to the consumer, it may first take a truck and then change to a train. On the way, it must go to a warehouse, sorted, and distributed. To connect these links, we need roads and stations, as well as vehicles, unified rules and standards, and interoperable information.

The logistics network is organically composed of hub nodes, backbone channels, equipment vehicles, rules and standards, information data, etc. It is a composite infrastructure system and comprehensive service network that supports the efficient flow of goods and resources throughout society. It plays an important role in the smooth circulation and high-quality development of the national economy.

It not only manages which route the goods take, but also how different links are connected and how different modes of transportation cooperate, making the entire process from departure to arrival of goods smoother.

The transportation network is already so developed, why do we still need to build a logistics network?

The road is open, but goods may still have to wait for transfer: Does the railway connect to the port or park? Can the arrival times of trucks and trains match? If you change the transportation method, do you need to fill in the form, unpack and inspect it again? These waiting and repeated operations will increase costs.

According to the Ministry of Transport, there are still problems such as tight capacity of some channels and poor connections between different transportation modes. Inconsistent business standards, lack of mutual recognition of documents, and lack of information sharing also affect transportation efficiency.

At present, the construction of the logistics network requires not only strengthening the necessary backbone channels, but also adding nodes, connecting lines, improving facilities, and connecting data on the existing basis, so that the already built transportation facilities can be better connected and rotated.

From "distributing points and smooth lines" to "forming chains and forming a network", how exactly does it change?

In the past, more emphasis was placed on opening up transportation channels and laying out hub stations. Now, construction and operation organizations need to work together.

In terms of facilities, we will promote the updating and transformation of nodes to make different transportation modes more closely connected; in terms of information, we will promote data connectivity and standard connection to reduce repeated processing; in terms of services, we will cultivate enterprises that can organize the entire transportation process so that cargo owners can "entrust one order and complete the order."

The "Implementation Plan for Logistics Network Construction" issued in August this year promotes the transformation and upgrading of logistics infrastructure from "abnormal distribution of points" to "chains and networks". Whether a network is running well or not depends not only on the channels and hubs, but also on how long goods wait less and how much faster the turnover is.
