Taiwan's Ministry of Agriculture leads a delegation to visit Thailand to promote exchanges on AI smart agriculture, focusing on digital transformation and low-carbon resilience

Taiwan's AI development combined with smart agriculture has also attracted the attention of its neighbors. The Ministry of Agriculture stated today (26th) that at the invitation of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office (TTEO), a delegation was organized to Bangkok, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai from the 21st to the 26th to conduct AI smart agriculture exchanges. The two parties have reached consensus on cooperation in five major aspects: digital transformation, technology implementation, low-carbon resilience, talent research and industrial markets. They will subsequently expand high-value, technology-driven agricultural supply chains to promote agricultural development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Ministry of Agriculture stated that the Chinese delegation was led by Li Hongxi, director of the Agricultural Experimental Institute and acting president of the Agricultural Science and Technology Research Institute, and led a total of 6 experts from industry, government, academia and research. In Bangkok, they communicated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation of Thailand and related academic and research institutions on AI agricultural policies and technology applications, and discussed low-carbon agriculture, public-private collaboration and industrial transformation with the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) and the Saraburi Sandbox team of SCG Group.

The delegation also went to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai to visit local young farmers and community agriculture organizations engaged in smart agriculture, as well as smart farms such as organic tea and environmentally friendly bananas in Singha Park to understand Thailand’s needs for improving smart farming technology and related equipment, materials and operations. Finally, they exchanged opinions with Maejo University on agricultural engineering, technology translation and talent training.

The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that Taiwan has been promoting smart agriculture for 10 years, and has accumulated experience in AI, Internet of Things, microclimate sensing and data applications, and actively promoted the implementation of technology. The exchange in Thailand not only shares policies, technologies and industrial applications, but also provides technology projects with application potential in Thailand, as well as a list of Taiwanese technical service providers interested in developing in Thailand for subsequent matchmaking reference.

The Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that the value of smart agriculture lies in the use of technology to respond to labor shortages, climate change and resource constraints, and to improve production efficiency and agricultural resilience. Next year, smart agriculture will enter the 2.0 stage. In addition to strengthening the implementation and expanding the scope of application of AI smart agriculture technology, we also look forward to promoting overseas demonstration sites with international partners such as Thailand. This visit also hopes to promote the interests of farmers and operators in Taiwan and Thailand and develop agriculture in the Asia-Pacific region.
