Ces machines sont capables de circuler sous caténaire et en utilisant le diesel en dehors des voies électrifiées, explique Alstom. Elles pourraient ainsi aussi rouler sur certaines grandes lignes, au-delà des seules manœuvres.

Cette commande ouvre un nouveau débouché au site de Belfort, berceau historique d'Alstom sauvée il y a dix ans, qui conçoit et fabrique également des motrices de TGV.

Elle prolonge aussi une relation commerciale avec Northrail : en 2023, les deux entreprises avaient conclu un accord-cadre portant sur 50 locomotives Traxx d'un autre modèle, destinées à la circulation sur les grandes lignes.

«Les manœuvres constituent le principal bastion de la traction diesel, vieillissante, en Europe, et les opérateurs ont besoin d'une alternative crédible pour renouveler ces flottes», a souligné Camille Brunel, associée du fonds actionnaire majoritaire de Northrail, citée dans le communiqué.
