Jeonju University professors oppose reappointment of Chairman Cha Jong-soon and vote for no confidence in the president

(Jeonju = Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Kyeong-jae = Jeonju University professors, who have been experiencing prolonged conflict within the school due to being eliminated from the Ministry of Education's 'Glocal University 30' project last year, reaffirmed their opposition to Chairman Cha Jong-soon's reappointment by voting.

The Emergency Response Committee for the Normalization of Jeonju University (hereinafter referred to as the emergency committee) announced that it held an emergency general meeting at 5 p.m. on the 2nd and decided against the reappointment of the chairman and a motion of no confidence in the president.

The emergency committee reported that 97.7% of the professors who participated in the vote (83.3% of the total) voted in favor of the motion against reappointment of the chairman, and 94.3% voted in favor of the motion of no confidence in President Ryu Doo-hyun.

Based on the results of the general meeting, the emergency committee decided to hold a resolution meeting in front of the president's office on the morning of the 3rd to demand the resignation of Chairman Cha and President Ryu.

An emergency committee official said, "We plan to visit the president's office tomorrow to deliver the voting results and read the declaration," and added, "We will do our best to normalize the university together with all members of the school."

Conflict within the school arose after Jeonju University was eliminated from the Glocal University 30 project last year.

The emergency committee, comprised of the Jeonju University faculty council, professor union, staff union, and dean council, claimed that Chairman Cha had privatized the school and received entertainment from professors in the past, and requested a police investigation.

Professor Lee Ho-jun of the Department of Counseling Psychology, who served as the chairman of the emergency committee, began a hunger strike on the 31st of last month, calling for the resignation of the chairman and president.
