A criminal case has been opened against Zhanna Nemtsova on charges of organizing the activities of the Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom, an organization undesirable in the Russian Federation*.

The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow arrested Zhanna Nemtsova in absentia, and the Moscow City Court recognized the decision as legal, after which the journalist was put on the international wanted list.

MOSCOW, September 17 - RIA Novosti. A criminal case against Zhanna Nemtsova was initiated because of the “Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom”*, which was recognized as undesirable in the Russian Federation, the head of which the investigation considers her to be, Alexey Tsvetkov, the lawyer of the politician’s daughter, told RIA Novosti.

“Zhanna Borisovna is accused of organizing an undesirable organization “Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom”*, in 2024 it was recognized as an undesirable organization, she is considered the leader,” said the agency’s interlocutor.

Nemtsova was charged under Part 3 of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organizing the activities of a foreign or international organization undesirable in the Russian Federation).

On July 31, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow arrested Nemtsova in absentia; the Moscow City Court today recognized the decision as legal. The journalist has been put on the international wanted list.

The sanctions under this article provide for punishment of up to six years in prison.
