Federal Justice Minister Hubig sees civil servants in the AfD government as having a duty

Federal Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig also sees civil servants as having a duty in a possible AfD-led government in Saxony-Anhalt. “Civil servants swear an oath to the constitution. “You have to adhere to the law,” said the SPD politician to the “Berliner Morgenpost”. If an official has the impression that he is being given unlawful instructions, he must clearly express the concerns internally. “He can’t just resort to doing what he’s told.”

Even an AfD government cannot act as it pleases, said Hubig. “But we don’t have to kid ourselves. The AfD is changing the political climate." The mood is becoming more aggressive. It's against refugees, against the free press and against political dissidents.

In the state elections on September 6th, the AfD received by far the most votes in Saxony-Anhalt with almost 44 percent, but fell short of an absolute majority. A difficult government formation is expected.
