MPs could use AI for their work. "But he is only well advised if his own thoughts and language remain recognizable in the political debate," she said.

Purely AI-generated texts lack “the personal, the emotional and the political intensification. Language thrives on the fact that attitude, experience and emotionality can be felt."

Own chatbot for MPs

And yet the Bundestag also wants to introduce its own AI chatbot for members of parliament and the administration this year. Lindholz heads the responsible committee of the Council of Elders. The introduction is “planned for by the end of the year – provided that everything goes as planned.” However, it is “about a supporting tool that can make faster and more precise work possible in many places - but not a replacement for human work.” The chatbot is intended to help with transcriptions, written elaborations and the preparation of lectures.

The offer is also intended to make using AI safer. »In this respect, we are not creating a new danger with our chatbot, but are rather trying to make interactions more conscious, critical and safer. “In this way we can contain the existing shadow AI, which is probably widespread,” said Lindholz. The deployment is initially planned for twelve months. Members of Parliament and employees should each have their own access. »It remains to be seen what kind of response the offer will receive. I don't want to force anyone. We're just creating the possibility," said Lindholz. The “level of protection” is “deliberately set as high as possible.”
