The leader of the LDPR proposed to establish a student scholarship not lower than the minimum wage

MOSCOW, September 15 - RIA Novosti. LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky proposed to establish in Russia the amount of scholarships for full-time students at a level not lower than the minimum wage; RIA Novosti has a corresponding appeal addressed to the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov.

The minimum wage (minimum wage) in Russia from January 1, 2026 is 27,093 rubles per month.

“We believe it is necessary to establish the minimum amount of state academic scholarships and state social scholarships for full-time students studying at the expense of budgetary allocations at a level not lower than the minimum wage,” the document says.

In addition, in the appeal, the parliamentarian proposes to provide a mechanism for the annual indexation of scholarships depending on changes in the minimum wage.

In a conversation with RIA Novosti, Slutsky noted that children who do not have parents, students with disabilities and children from low-income families are especially in dire condition, therefore, in his opinion, the state scholarship should be no lower than the minimum wage and be indexed annually.

“Russia should not lose talented young people just because their families don’t have enough money,” he added.

The document notes that the adoption of these measures will significantly improve the standard of living of students and social stability in the student environment, and reduce the risks of the outflow of talented youth from the education sector.
