Hackers from the USA, France and Singapore tried to disrupt remote electronic voting (REV) in the State Duma elections.

Rostelecom repelled more than 3 thousand waves of DDoS attacks and blocked more than 170 million malicious impacts on web services during the elections.

The power and number of attacks exceeded the volumes of the previous Single Voting Day and the presidential elections of the Russian Federation in 2024.

MOSCOW, September 25 - RIA Novosti. Hackers from the USA, France and Singapore tried to disrupt remote electronic voting (REV) at the last State Duma elections, while the sources of malicious traffic were the IP spaces of more than 30 countries, including the UK and Ukraine, Rostelecom reported.

On the Unified Voting Day, which took place in Russia from September 18 to 20, Rostelecom ensured the operation of secure communication channels and infrastructure at polling stations, organized video surveillance in 89 regions of the country, and was also responsible for cyber protection and uninterrupted operation of the State Automated System "Elections" and the federal platform DEG.

“The most powerful attacks in terms of intensity came from the networks of unfriendly countries. The sources of malicious traffic were the IP spaces of more than 30 countries, including the UK and Ukraine. At the same time, the USA, France and Singapore were seen among the main source countries in attacks on the electronic voting infrastructure,” the company said in a statement.

It is noted that during three election days, specialists repelled more than 3 thousand waves of DDoS attacks with a capacity of up to 1.7 Tbit/s, blocked more than 170 million malicious impacts on web services and prevented attempts by attackers to penetrate the infrastructure.

The main efforts were focused on preventing compromise of the system, including substitution or disclosure of voting results before the completion of the official procedure.
