(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Pyeong-cheon = Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 29th regarding the working environment at the Sinjeong Vehicle Base in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, "We are focusing too much on reducing the number of people, so we are wondering if there are safety concerns, so we are going to check it."

Representative Kim appeared on the Democratic Party's YouTube channel 'Minty 07' after meeting with workers at the Shinjeong Vehicle Base early in the morning and said, "The number of (subway) vehicles has increased in the past 20 years, and the workforce in Seoul as a whole has decreased by about 2,000, but the city of Seoul is trying to reduce it further."

Representative Kim emphasized, “Even if there is an understandable aspect of reducing expenses, when safety becomes an issue, it seems like a big problem, so we decided to check it during the government audit,” adding, “In the end, the most important things are people’s livelihood and safety.”

He said, “The people involved (workers) complained of quite a burden,” and “When a car comes in, about 7 or 8 people spread out and look through it within an hour, but there is also a risk related to everyone.”

He continued, "The president also emphasized at the Cabinet meeting that safety should be taken very seriously and that areas that need to be reduced should be reduced, but jobs should be increased in areas that are needed," he explained. "I also experienced a lot of changes in my perspective while attending the meeting, and I am looking at it from that perspective."

Representative Kim also selected 'settlement conditions' as the Democratic Party's keynote of the day and said, "In order for any industry or job to be created, education, culture, and medical care must be provided."

Representative Kim said, "Hyundai Motors decided to invest in Jeonbuk, and the principle is the same as the three mega projects. Transportation, housing, education, and culture must be provided there quickly, and regulations must be removed at lightning speed. When I was prime minister, government ministries and companies gathered together and processed the project quickly."

He said, "For example, the issue of the Gwangju military airport must be resolved through consultations with the U.S. military regarding SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement), and at the same time, a contamination investigation must be conducted quickly." He added, "Mayor Min Hyeong-bae of Gwangju cannot do it alone, so the government and the party are trying to resolve it."

Representative Kim added, “The most important achievement during the president’s term is growth and (building) a dignified basic society that overcomes the shadows that arise from growth, so the party will focus on that.”
