Counter-exodus: 27 million vehicles on the move over the weekend

Red sticker for Saturday and Sunday and afternoon and over 27 million vehicles in motion throughout the weekend. With the imminent reopening of schools, the counter-exodus begins today, with the intensification of traffic on the main connecting routes between tourist locations and large urban centres. The estimate of 27 million is from Anas and refers to roads and motorways of the FS Group company, which has strengthened the commitment of staff throughout the national territory and has reduced the presence of construction sites: until 7 September 1,175 will be closed or suspended, 83% of the active ones (1,414).

The intensification of traffic will concern the main tourist itineraries: the A2 "Mediterranean Motorway" which crosses Campania, Basilicata and Calabria; the state roads 106 Jonica and 18 Tirrena Inferiore in Calabria; the A19 Palermo-Catania and A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorways in Sicily; the state road 131 Carlo Felice in Sardinia; the state road 148 Pontina nel Lazio, a particularly busy artery which together with the SS7 "Appia" ensures connections between Rome and the tourist resorts of lower Lazio; the E45 route (SS675 and SS3 bis) which affects Umbria, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and connects the north east with central Italy; the routes SS1 Aurelia (Lazio, Tuscany and Liguria), SS16 Adriatica (Puglia, Molise, Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto).

In the north, the RA13 and RA14 motorway connections in Friuli-Venezia Giulia from the border crossings, the SS36 of Lake Como and Spluga in Lombardy, the SS45 of Val Trebbia in Liguria, the SS26 of Valle D'Aosta and the SS309 Romea between Emilia-Romagna and Veneto and the SS 51 of Alemagna in Veneto.

"Traffic flows affect the entire national territory and require the utmost attention from all road users" warns the CEO of Anas, Claudio Andrea Gemme, who invites motorists to face the journey with "responsibility and awareness" and to "never use their mobile phone while driving. A few seconds of distraction are enough to put your own life and that of others at risk".
