Elio Ciccarese elected new president of the Province of Brindisi

The Province of Brindisi has a new president: Elio Ciccarese, supported by the centre-left, prevailed in the challenge against Angelo Caforio, a representative of the centre-right, in the elections held today, 27 September. Since this was a second degree consultation, citizens were called to vote. Only the mayors and city councilors of all the municipalities within the province of Brindisi expressed their preferences. Ciccarese, former mayor of Torchiarolo and acting president of the Province, won thanks to a total of 49,854 weighted votes. Caforio, mayor of Latiano, obtained 41,974.

The turnout in the Brindisi provincial elections

Out of all 305 mayors and municipal councilors in the Brindisi province, 283 voted. This round of provincial elections therefore ended with a 92.8% turnout.

Who is Elio Ciccarese

Elio Ciccarese was born on 28 October 1965 in Torchiarolo, where he has been mayor since 2020 (leading a civic coalition). He has been working in the town's municipality for a long time: it was 1997 when he held the position of minority councilor for the first time, with Forza Italia. "It is with deep emotion and a strong sense of responsibility that I take on the leadership of the Province of Brindisi. I thank my friend and President of the Regional Council Toni Matarrelli for having personally contributed to my candidacy. I thank my opponent, in this electoral competition, the Mayor of Latiano Avv. Angelo Caforio. I thank my municipal administration which as always supported me and all my friends and fellow citizens who supported me! ", wrote Ciccarese on Facebook after his election.
