Governor Elmano announces expansion of radiotherapy in the interior of Ceará as a campaign priority

The internalization of the oncology service was a campaign promise made by Elmano in the 2022 election and which was partially fulfilled, as g1 showed in July 2026. According to the governor, there are 30 thousand patients currently treated in the interior of the state.

The statement took place during a press conference on a walk in the Siqueira neighborhood, in Fortaleza, this Wednesday morning. The second campaign agenda this day was a lunch with capital city councilors.

The PT member said that the plan now is to bring radiotherapy to regions where this service is not yet available. The goal is for all stages of cancer treatment to be available in the region where the patient lives, according to Elmano.

"We already have chemotherapy, we already have surgery, diagnosis, but it is very important to move forward to also have radiotherapy in these other regions. We already have it in Barbalha, we already have it in Sobral, but we need to take it to other regions, so that all cancer treatment is carried out in the region of the patient and his family. [...] And I am absolutely convinced that, together with President Lula, together with our action by the State Government, we will achieve this great benefit which is expanding the cancer treatment network", said the PT member.

"In Iguatu, it started with the philanthropic entity, but our commitment is to place it in the regional hub hospital as soon as it is completed. In Cariri, there is already a tradition of the philanthropic entity. [...] My priority is to take it to the regional hub hospital, like it is in Jaguaribe, like it is in Quixeramobim, and I want to take it to the regional hub hospitals, but I think the important thing for the citizen is to have it close to their home", declared Elmano.

The PT candidate pointed out as the main criterion the proximity of the service to patients. "The central element for the citizen is that it is close to their home. So, if in that region the closest is the philanthropic hospital, it will be at the philanthropic hospital. If the closest is the public hospital, it will be the public hospital", he added.
