72-year-old woman is attacked by two Rottweilers in Amparo and is at risk of arm amputation

The daughter of the 72-year-old woman attacked by two rottweiler dogs in Amparo (SP), this Tuesday (29), stated that her mother is at risk of having one of her arms amputated due to the severity of the injuries. The victim lost his ears and suffered injuries to his head and neck after the attack.

"She has no ears, no back of her head, her neck is full of stitches. She is even now undergoing surgery and is at risk of having an arm amputated," he said.

She reported that her mother was passing through Rua Marcílio Consoli, in Jardim Cachoeira, on her way to work, when she was attacked by the animals, which were loose.

The dogs belong to a reserve military police officer and a woman. The PM did not record an interview, but stated that he believed that the animals had forced the gate and escaped from the property.

A neighbor told EPTV, a TV Globo affiliate, that the gate was not completely closed and that the dogs had already escaped before.

After the attack, the victim was rescued and taken to Santa Casa Anna Cintra. One of the animals' owners was also at the hospital and was later taken to the police station to provide clarification.

The case was registered with the Civil Police as bodily injury and failure to exercise caution when guarding or driving animals. Forensics were on site during the afternoon to determine the circumstances of the attack.

The medical report released on Tuesday afternoon (29) indicates that the victim suffered multiple bite injuries to the neck and lower limbs, and extensive injuries to the forearms. There is involvement of the right limb, with risk of amputation.

The elderly woman was taken to the surgical center and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Dogs under observation

A team from the Zoonoses Surveillance Unit of the city of Amparo carried out an inspection at the owners' homes and reported that the dogs were healthy and had been vaccinated this month.

The animals will remain under observation for at least ten days.

According to São Paulo legislation, Rottweiler dogs must use a leash, collar and muzzle in public places. The elderly woman's mother held the guardians responsible.

"The owners of these dogs need to pay better attention. Take care of them, lock the gate, put on a muzzle when they go out on the street, which other people can't afford, right? Someone like me, my mother, doesn't even have a dog and today she is paying a high price", he added.
