Iran presents the US with a new ceasefire proposal and the lifting of sanctions

The proposed arrangement resembles the memorandum from mid-June, which was followed by a short-lived truce that lasted several weeks.

The Financial Times reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi presented a new proposal to the US. According to it, the fighting would stop within a week, the US would lift the blockade of ports and sanctions, and unfreeze Iranian assets.

Hormuz would be opened on the last day, Aragchi said.

Only then would talks on other issues, including the Iranian nuclear program, begin.

The White House said that Donald Trump remains open to negotiations, but emphasizes the strong position of the US resulting from sanctions and the naval blockade.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that freedom of navigation through Hormuz will not be restored as long as sanctions and the blockade are maintained. In an interview with Fox News broadcast on Thursday, he said: We have not closed the Strait of Hormuz.
