This week, many events in the fields of cinema, music, theater and contemporary art will meet art lovers in Istanbul.
Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theater will host the prominent events of the week at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), Zorlu Performing Arts Center and Istanbul Modern.
Filmekimi, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), will start on October 9. As part of the festival, productions screened at Cannes, Venice and Toronto film festivals will meet moviegoers in Istanbul.
Screenings will be held at Atlas 1948 Cinema, Beyoğlu Cinema, Kadıköy Cinema, Cinewam City's Nişantaşı and Paribu Cineverse Nautilus. The festival will continue until October 18.
The Istanbul leg of the Türkiye Culture Road Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, started on September 26 and will continue until October 4. Within the scope of the nine-day festival, concerts, exhibitions, theatre, opera and ballet performances, talks, workshops, children's activities and gastronomy programs meet art lovers in different parts of Istanbul.
EXHIBITIONS TO BE HELD
While the exhibitions "Three Painters: Alaettin Aksoy, Mehmet Güleryüz, Komet", "Image of Colors" and "A Vision of a Transforming Future" at AKM stand out in the Cultural Path Festival exhibition program, exhibitions in different venues such as Tophane-i Amire Culture and Art Center, Rami Library and Tarık Zafer Tunaya Cultural Center also host the audience.
The "Aria of All Colors" exhibition at Istanbul Modern, focusing on the life and production of Semiha Berksoy, will continue until November 22. The museum's "Panorama: Dreams and Places" exhibition will be open until October 18.
Yoko Ono's "Interior Voice and Internal Structure" exhibition can be visited at Sakıp Sabancı Museum until December 27, and "Time, Space Geometry" and "Haunted" exhibitions can be visited at Borusan Contemporary as part of the new season until August 2027.
The "Collectors" edition of Artweeks Istanbul can also be visited at Akaretler Sıraevler throughout the week. The event, which includes selections from the collections of Banu and Hakan Çarmıklı, Öner Kocabeyoğlu and Tansa Mermerci, will continue until November 8.
Director and artist Alkan Avcıoğlu's first solo exhibition in Türkiye titled "Death of the Camera", consisting of works produced with artificial intelligence tools, can be seen until October 31.
The "Military Comradeship Memories" exhibition, which reveals the historical adventure of Turkish-Hungarian military relations, will meet art lovers at the Liszt Institute-Hungarian Cultural Center until October 9.
The "Two Brushes, One Harmony" illumination exhibition, signed by artists Ayşe Gülcan Özbalak and Zeynep Üstün, will continue until September 30 at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) Yeni Cami Hünkar Kasrı.
"Şerif Muhiddin Targan Exhibition", consisting of the personal belongings of oud and cello virtuoso, composer and painter Şerif Muhiddin Targan, can be seen at Beyazıt Manuscript Library until December 9.
The "Contact" exhibition, prepared by the Culture and Civilization Foundation (KÜME) and focusing on the works of Giulio Mongeri, the architect of Karaköy Palas, can be viewed at Karaköy Palas until October 1.
Also, on the 150th anniversary of the death of Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi, who is remembered as the "Hagia Sophia Calligrapher", the "Lord of the Calligraphy Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi" exhibition, organized by the Turkish Manuscripts Association (TÜYEK) within the scope of the Istanbul Culture Road Festival, opens today at the Rami Library.
The "40 Sufi Tales" exhibition, consisting of mystical and philosophical narratives by Tunisian artist, writer, director and storyteller Nacer Khemir, awaits its visitors at the Rami Library.
The "Thematic and Youth National Stamp Exhibition" organized within the scope of the Istanbul Culture Road Festival was opened to visitors at the Rami Library. The exhibition, prepared in cooperation with the Postal and Telegraph Organization Joint Stock Company (PTT AŞ) and the Federation of Turkish Philatelic Associations (TFDF), includes stamp collections prepared in thematic and youth categories.
NAMES WHO WILL TAKE THE STAGE THIS WEEK
This week, music lovers in Istanbul will meet with a wide concert program ranging from popular names of Turkish music to international artists.
The concert program also includes concerts to be held at Galataport Clock Tower Square as well as AKM within the scope of the Culture Road Festival.
Today, Sibel Can will take the stage at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre, Sami Yusuf at the Istanbul Congress Center Harbiye Auditorium, and Murat Boz at the Galataport Clock Tower Square.
Tomorrow, Buray will give a concert at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre. On the same day, Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra will meet with music lovers at the Atatürk Cultural Center Theater Hall, and Kıraç will meet with music lovers at Galataport Clock Tower Square.
Koma Amed will perform at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theater on September 30, and Simge will perform at Galataport Clock Tower Square. On October 1, Tuğba Yurt will give a concert in Harbiye with the project "Take Us to Sezen! Symphonic Vol. 3".
Also on October 2, Sibel Can will meet with her fans at Ataköy Marina Open Air Stage and Bengü will meet with her fans at Galataport Clock Tower Square. On October 3, Amr Diab will be on stage at Ataköy Marina Arena, Kenan Doğulu at Ataköy Marina Open Air Stage, Evgeny Grinko at HABITAT Hilltown, Redd at JJ Arena Ataşehir and Ceza at Galataport Clock Tower Square.
Within the scope of the concerts, on October 4, Leyla The Band will perform at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre, Evgeny Grinko at Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Performance Center, Bayhan at Galataport Clock Tower Square, and Sagopa Kajmer at Paribu Vadi Open Air.
The 36th Akbank Jazz Festival, organized by Akbank Sanat, will continue with concerts, talks and workshops in different venues in Istanbul until October 4. Within the scope of the festival, Sarathy Korwar Drum Ensemble will perform at Salon İKSV tomorrow, Ben LaMar Gay Ensemble will perform at Babylon on October 1, James Carter will perform at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage and Cochemea Salon İKSV on October 3.
Rami Library will also host concerts every evening until October 4th as part of AileFest. Today, Cengiz Özkan, Ümit Sayın, Ferda Anıl Yarkın, Metin and Eda Özülkü on 29 September, Yaşar on 30 September, Ekin Uzunlar on 1 October, İncesaz on 2 October, Kubat on 3 October and Kıraç on 4 October will give a concert.
GAMES TO BE EXHIBITED THIS WEEK
The theater season in Istanbul continues with its busy schedule.
Plays such as "Aydınlıkevler" will be staged at Maximum UNIQ Hall, "Death of a Salesman", "Amadeus" and "A Father Hamlet" will be staged at Zorlu PSM.
The play "Conspiracy in the Dark" will meet the audience at Trump Stage on September 30. "The Play in the Middle" will appear before the audience at Kadıköy Education Stage on October 2. The two-person play, starring Altan Erkekli and Veysel Diker, combines the traditional middle dance narrative with music and satire.
"Captain from Inishmore" will meet the audience on October 2 at DasDas Stage and on October 3 at Kadıköy Education Stage. The cast, including Burak Demir, Aziz Çoban, Volkan Ateş Gündüz and Yeşim Çelebi, takes the stage in Martin McDonagh's black comedy.
