Montenegro introduces visa requirements for Turkish citizens

Montenegro, where Turkish citizens can still enter without a visa, will start requiring a visa as of November 1, 2026. This regulation, introduced within the scope of the country's harmonization process with the EU policy, covers citizens of Belarus, China, Russia and Saudi Arabia, as well as Türkiye.

According to the current practice, Turkish citizens can stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days without a visa.

According to the new decision, visa-free entries will end on October 31, 2026, meaning that as of November 1, 2026, a visa will be required from maroon passport holders who want to enter Montenegro.

VISA-FREE STAY PERIOD WAS REDUCED FROM 90 DAYS TO 30 DAYS

Prime Minister Milojko Spajic temporarily suspended the visa-free travel application to Türkiye after the Montenegrin government was associated with Turkish citizens after the stabbing of a Montenegrin citizen in the capital Podgorica on October 25, 2025.

The suspension decision was lifted on December 23, 2025, but the visa-free stay period for Turkish citizens was reduced from 90 days to 30 days.

320 THOUSAND VISITORS FROM Türkiye ANNUALLY

According to EuroNews, Montenegro on the Adriatic coast is among the holiday destinations frequently preferred by Turkish citizens due to its visa-free travel opportunity.

According to official data published in February 2025, approximately 320 thousand Turkish citizens visit the country every year.

Montenegrin Minister of Internal Affairs Danilo Saranovic announced that by the end of 2025, there will be approximately 100 thousand foreigners with temporary or permanent residence permits in the country, and 13 thousand of them are Turkish citizens.

Montenegrin officials stated that there was an increase in the number of Turkish citizens establishing companies or looking for work in the country.
