Karşıyaka Retirees Platform held a meeting for retired police officer Ali Şekeroğlu, who committed suicide in Ankara.

Karşıyaka Retirees Platform members came together in Karşıyaka for 60-year-old retired police officer Ali Şekeroğlu, who committed suicide during the protest organized by retirees in front of the Constitutional Court (AYM) on September 25, demanding a raise. In the statement, it was said that Şekeroğlu was a father of two children and retired after serving as a police officer for many years. Stating that Şekeroğlu participated in the protest for his rights with the Turkish flag and a sign in his hand, the platform stated that the retired citizen expressed the economic difficulties he experienced during the protest.

In the statement, "We lost Ali Şekeroğlu. But what separated him from life was not only a moment of desperation, but also political choices that confined the retiree to the starvation line for years. The fact that a retiree had to end his life in the middle of the action of seeking his rights, in front of his friends next to him, is a dark document of what retirement and old age have become in this country. In a system where rent, food and medicine cannot be covered with pensions, and where millions of retirees spend the winter without heating and the summer without food; "the orphan with no hair left." Not giving a raise by taking shelter behind the words "right to live" is a violation of retirees' right to life. The pain of our brother we lost today is once again a cry of this right to deaf ears. Our demand is clear, retirees should be given an immediate raise. Pensions should be increased to the level that will enable a life worthy of human dignity. The rightful struggle of the retiree should be responded to with justice and healing, not with pepper gas and barricades. We will not forget our brother Ali Şekeroğlu. Our struggle is his "It will continue to make the cry of 'I can't get along' heard and to change the order that gives rise to this cry."
