Constituent session of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt on October 6th

Magdeburg. The new state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt will meet for its first session in Magdeburg on October 6th. This should begin at 11 a.m., as several parliamentary managing directors of the parliamentary groups told the German Press Agency after a consultation in the state parliament.

The AfD clearly became the strongest force in the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt on September 6th, but missed out on an absolute majority. There are 83 members of the new state parliament, 39 of whom belong to the AfD. The CDU, Left, Greens and SPD also have 39 seats together. The BSW is represented by five representatives.

Representatives of the AfD and BSW are currently in discussions to explore the extent to which cooperation is possible. The BSW is ruling out a coalition; instead, there should be selective cooperation on certain issues.

Representatives of the BSW have also announced that they want to elect an AfD candidate for the office of state parliament president. The election should take place at the inaugural session of Parliament.

There could possibly be a larger demonstration in Magdeburg. The “resist” action alliance has called for protest. The alliance is mobilizing against the AfD and also relies on civil disobedience. The plan is to change the state parliament from all sides, it says in a call.
