Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar was dismissed

Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar attended the meeting held under the chairmanship of Trump on the margins of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly meetings in New York and attended by representatives from many Latin American countries.

Thereupon, Costa Rican President Fernandez dismissed Tovar on the grounds that he held this meeting without his knowledge.

In the statement made by the President's office, it was emphasized that the real problem here is not that Tovar attended the meeting, but that he did not inform Fernandez sufficiently and did not give Fernandez the chance to attend the meeting.

FERNANDEZ APOLOGIZED TO THE USA FOR NOT ATTENDING THE MEETING

Following the incident, Fernandez spoke at an event attended by US Ambassador to San Jose Melinda Hildebrand.

Stating that the invitation to the meeting was "not properly conveyed" to him, Fernandez apologized for not being able to attend the meeting.

Regarding Tovar's dismissal, Fernandez said, "Such mistakes cannot be ignored." he said.

Tovar, who started his duty as Minister of Foreign Affairs on May 8 after Fernandez took office, became the person who served in this position for the shortest time in the country's history with 139 days.
